Cross-Atlantic improvisation session showcasing Somax2

This dataset features a recorded cross-Atlantic improvisation session showcasing Somax2, an AI-based music software developed by IRCAM’s Representations Musicales team. Somax2 analyzes and generates music in real time, enabling dynamic collaborations. Paired with JackTrip for ultra-low-latency audio streaming, the system allowed seamless interaction between remote and live performers. The performance centered around Ewe from Elefantöra, whose musical input guided Somax2’s real-time responses. Joel Mansour contributed with his own technological tools, enhancing the improvisation. The success of the session was made possible by Mikhail Malt, who refined the system, and Constantin Basica, who ensured smooth online performance. Additional support came from Tatiana Catanzaro, Patricia Alessandrini, Jan Hansen, and Hans Kretz, who coordinated the event and managed the JackTrip server. This session was later presented as part of the AI Day 2024 at Jönköping Science Park, under the theme ‘AI for a brighter future’, exploring how AI can address societal challenges and support sectors like culture. The dataset includes the session recording, an image fo the set up and two blog posts (in PDF) about the performance and event.
